Auto Transport | Car shipping process | Choosing an auto shipper

In August 2014, The Guardian published an article titled "Sustainable Shipping Is Making Waves," stating that the shipping industry only produces 3% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions, making this form of transport the most affordable option. And considering that independent shipping services are responsible for moving about 90% of all traded goods across the globe, it's pretty impressive that these companies have been able to keep their carbon footprints low.

It's been nearly a year since that article was published, but the message still rings true today: if you're looking for the most affordable and most energy-efficient way to move items, turning to your local shipping services is the best option. The car shipping industry, in particular, is a great example of how consumers can reduce their energy consumption but still move large items across the country (or even into a different country). This industry is worth about $12 billion today, and car shipping companies provide specialized transport to a variety of target audiences: from homeowners who are moving across town to vehicle manufacturers that have hundreds of cars to ship across the country, the auto transport industry is one of the most widespread and essential parts of the overall shipping industry.

And when you choose to ship a car instead of driving it yourself, you're also contributing to a greener planet! Even though the average car shipping service only has two carrier vehicles on the road at a time, the most common carrier trucks can transport multiple cars at once, thereby saving quite a bit of gasoline.

By taking all of these cars off the road, traffic congestion is reduced -- which is especially important in big cities -- which means that other drivers spend less time idling in traffic. And if you're lucky enough to find a shipping service that lets you put some extra cargo (usually about 50 to 100 lbs.) in your car while it's being transported, you can save even more energy just by having fewer boxes to ship.

Regardless of where you're moving your car, one thing is clear: when you use a car shipping service, you're also keeping the planet healthy!
